Ep 11: Two Of A Kind | A Father's Unexpected Journey

The time machine hummed around them as Shann entered the coordinates for his own time.

Young Shann stood beside him, still trying to process everything he had seen and learned. Luka stayed close by, while the four cats wandered nervously around their feet.

ORACLE's voice filled the machine.

"I want to remind you, Shann, that I strongly advise against what you are doing."

Shann looked back at everyone and smiled.

"We'll figure it out."


The machine began to shake.

The walls around them disappeared into a blur of light. For a few seconds, nobody spoke. Then, suddenly, everything stopped.

Silence.


Shann opened his eyes.


They were home.


The cats immediately scattered across the room, sniffing corners and exploring their strange new surroundings.

Young Shann slowly turned in a circle.

"Bro..."


Luka stared out the window.

"This is your house?"

Shann smiled.

"Yeah. Well... our house, I guess."


Young Shann walked over to the window and looked outside. The world beyond it was familiar, but at the same time completely different from the one he had left behind.

Luka looked down at her hands.

"So this is really the future."

"Yep," Shann said.

For a moment, everyone stood silently.


Shann looked at his younger self.

It was strange seeing himself standing there. Younger. Familiar. And somehow completely different.

Young Shann looked back at him.

Chapter 1:  Shannon expected to be greeted by the familiar and comforting visage of the AI's avatar, when he got home. "Oracle?" he called, the name echoing back to him from the far corners of the room. The space where her luminous presence usually stood was empty, a void in a place where one shouldn’t exist. Confused, he approached the main console, the screens blinking with regular operations but lacking the AI's distinct signature. "Oracle?" he queried again, trying to mask the rising unease in his voice. Silence. Growing more concerned, he tapped the device on his wrist, his direct line to her. "Oracle, are you around?"
